National Archives of Satellite Images:
IRS-1C Satellite

Description The members of the IRS satellites were produced in the frame of the Indian Space Research Project, as deputy of the Indian Government.
The Bhaskara experimental satellite was the first member of the series, it was launched in Jun, 1979. The second satellite was the Bhaskara-2, also with experimental aim, it was launched in November, 1981. These satellites had TV cameras and radiometer on the board.

The IRS-1A satellite was launched in 1988, with a LISS sensor on the board, which provided data on 4 bands, with 72.5 m spatial resolution. The resolution of the next satellite, the IRS-1B was 36.5 m, this satellite was launched in August, 1991. The IRS-1A/1B satellites were used in the National Natural Resource Research.

The IRS-P2 satellite was launched on 16. October, 1994., with a converted LISS camera on the board. This satellite provides data which are similar to data of the IRS-1A/1B LISS cameras.

As it showed a great international interest for the images of IRS-1C satellite, because of their very good resolution, it was made possible to distribute them in other countries, too. In Europe the EUROMAP (GAF Company) is the distributor.

The IRS-P3 satellite was launched on 21. March, 1996. It has special instruments on the board, which are suitable for earth-observations, like sensors with big resolution for cartographic purposes, and WiFS (Wild Field Sensor) for studying the agricultural and global vegetation.
